Return of the Beast April 12, 2008

It sure has been a long long long time since I have been on the old blog but life has been a roller coaster and of course in the midst of all that I forgot my user name and password to even get on to make a post.  Fortunately, after many attempts, I got in and here I am.  For those of you who are unsure of my whereabouts at the moment, I have moved back to the Gulf Coast and am loving it.  It has been a crazy transition but a good one for the most part.  I am working a crazy job and living near the water so you know that is great!  I am planning to pack in a lot of beach in the coming months since my own personal beach season runs from March 1 until the Sunday following Thanksgiving.  I know that may seem little outrageous but the weather usually permits so why not?  As for the title of this particular post-the beast I am referring to would be the one and only American Idol.  It is back with a vengenance and monopolizing several hours of my time a week (which should steadily decline as the contestants are sent packing and the show doesn’t require so much air time).  I have had a (key word being “A” as oppossed to several, a few or many) request for an Idol blog so I will begin with a recap of last week’s performances and hopefully stay up to date in the weeks to come by blogging as Idol is airing.

To say that I have gotten serious about this year’s competition would be an understatement.  There is a notebook that contains each contestant’s name (beginning with the top 24), name of song sung, various comments on that particular performance and a letter grade assigned to the contestant based on appearance, vocals, performance, attitude, etc.  There has also been a chart made so that I might have easy access to previous scores given and for the purpose of comparison among the contestants. As you might imagine this year has been exciting for me with all the actual talent that has come out of those horrific try outs in places like Nebraska and San Diego.  I am glad that portion is over and that it is all the way down to the top 12 and now the top 11.  I will give you an update on my thoughts so far….

update….everything written before this was written a few weeks ago and put into draft.  I am not going to my thoughts on the contestants but will address what was the most ridiculous, uncalled for event of the 21st century besides Pluto losing planet status and the Jews being blamed for 9/11….that one event would be what happened this week as we bid farewell to Michael Johns.  I would like to say tha the worst part about this particular show was the fact that he had the lowest votes. However, the way it was handled was almost criminal.  I feel like Fox should at least offer to send the contestants, especially Michael Johns, as well as those of us watching at home to a few sessions with a counselor.  Of all the low down, dirty ways to tell someone they are going home-Ryan Seacrest nailed it this week.  It was an emotional rollercoaster!  Why did he even have to bring up last year?  There is no reason why he should have even hinted that Michael Johns might be able to stay for another week and then crush everybody’s dream with telling hem that he is going home.  I was actually mad enough to stop watching but I have gotten so involved I would feel like the time invested would be a total waste if I did not continue.  On to something else that will not make my blood pressure sky rocket….

The Office did return this week and I loved it.  I am so glad people got a glimpse of the scale of awkwardness I deal with on an almost daily basis.  Anywho-this one is for you Jason, maybe my only reader.  I will try to be a little more consistent in my reporting.

see ya

Show some guts and don’t watch. That kind of behavior shouldn’t be tolerated. Send a message to Fox.
